Second Shift Lead Stand Up Forklift Operator (M-F: 1pm-10pm)

Atlanta, GA
Full Time
Mid Level
Who We Are
Porter Logistics started in 2017 with two founders, one 3,000-square-foot warehouse and no customers. We won our first accounts one at a time by taking on the work other warehouses turned down and doing the work better than our clients expected.

Today Porter runs four facilities across Atlanta and the Savannah port area. We handle the hard stuff: hazardous and specialty chemicals, food-grade and temperature-controlled freight from ambient to frozen, bonded imports and bulk chemical repackaging. Our customers include Fortune 500 manufacturers and global distributors in chemicals, food and beverage, consumer goods and building materials. They have their pick of 3PLs. They choose us.

We’ve grown every year since we opened, and 2026 is on pace for 40% growth. Growth means new sites, new roles and room to move up. Many of our leaders started in entry-level roles here.

The Role
The Second Shift Lead Operator will lead our picking team at our cold storage facility. You'll run a reach truck for most of the shift and lead a crew of 1 to 3 operators for the rest.

About 80% of your shift happens on a stand-up reach truck: pulling orders and staging outbound orders for the next day. The other 20% goes to leading. You'll assign work at the start of shift, train new operators on the reach truck and close out the night with an end-of-shift report for the Operations Manager.

Our building runs half ambient and half temperature controlled, so you'll work in freezer and chiller areas as part of the job. This is a full-time hourly position based on-site at our Atlanta warehouse.

What You'll Earn
  • 21-23/hour based on experience
  • Medical, dental and vision plans
  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off and company holidays
  • Overtime opportunities
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM

You'll Thrive Here If You
  • Know a stand-up reach truck well enough to teach someone else to run one
  • Want to lead a small crew while staying on the equipment
  • Hold your crew to the same accuracy standard you hold yourself
  • Want a path into supervision with a company where leaders move up from within
This Might Not Be For You If
  • You want a day shift. This role runs 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
  • You want to avoid cold work. Half our building is temperature controlled, including freezer areas.
  • You want to lead from the sidelines. You'll spend about 80% of your shift on the lift.
  • You'd rather not answer for your crew's mistakes
What You'll Be Responsible For
  • Operate a stand-up reach truck to unload containers and trailers, put away product and pull orders.
  • Assign daily work to a crew of 1 to 3 forklift operators.
  • Train new operators on reach truck operation and Porter's safety standards.
  • Record every move with RF scanners in our Extensiv WMS.
  • Inspect equipment before each shift and report damage or equipment issues.
  • Submit an end-of-shift report to the Operations Manager.
  • Follow and enforce safety rules and SOPs across your crew.
What We're Looking For
  • 2+ years operating a stand-up reach truck
  • Experience with RF scanners. Extensiv WMS experience is a plus.
  • Ability to train others and give clear direction
  • Strong attention to detail on locations, counts and paperwork
  • No outside certification required. Porter certifies every operator in-house.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand and walk for a full shift
  • Comfort working in warehouse temperatures, including summer heat
  • Comfort working in freezer and chiller areas
The Hiring Process
We respect your time. If your background fits, a member of our HR team will call you for a short phone screen. Next, you'll visit the warehouse for an in-person interview, meet the team and tour the facility.
