The Role
We’re looking for an exceptional Yard Operations Lead to manage inbound, outbound, and inventory activities for one of our high-volume outdoor storage accounts. This position is 100% outdoors and ideal for someone with a strong construction, yard, or materials-handling background who thrives in a fast-paced environment and takes pride in getting the details right every time.
You’ll serve as the onsite operational expert — hands-on with equipment, coordinating yard activity, and acting as the primary representative of Porter’s service and values.

The Role
We’re looking for an exceptional Yard Operations Lead to manage inbound, outbound, and inventory activities for one of our high-volume outdoor storage accounts. You’ll serve as the onsite operational expert — hands-on with equipment, coordinating yard activity, and acting as the primary representative of Porter’s service and values.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee all inbound and outbound shipments for a high-volume client
- Perform yard-based loading and unloading of heavy materials using forklifts
- Stage outbound orders with precise attention to lengths, cuts, bundle types, and customer-specific requirements
- Conduct daily yard walks to ensure materials are organized, safely stored, and correctly labeled
- Maintain a clean, safe, and productive outdoor work environment
- Serve as the day-to-day operational point of contact for your assigned customer
- Build cleint rust through reliability, accuracy, and consistent execution
- Partner with Porter’s warehouse teams, office staff, and transportation partners to maintain seamless operations
- Provide real-time updates and ensure accurate documentation across internal systems
Experience We're Looking For:
- 3+ years in a construction site, materials yard, outdoor warehouse, or foreman-style position
- Strong background handling large, heavy, or specialty materials (lumber, decking, steel, roofing, etc.)
- Forklift certification — sit-down required; stand-up preferred
- Prior leadership or lead-level responsibility in a hands-on environment
- Extremely organized with strong attention to detail — able to prevent mistakes before they happen
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Clear communicator who can work directly with drivers, vendors, and internal teams
- Hands-on leader who brings ownership, initiative, and accountability to the work
- Ability to multitask, stay level-headed under pressure, and manage changing demands
